William "Bill" Sharp, Jr.'s Obituary
William "Bill" Sharp Jr., age 88, of Centerville, passed away Monday, November 18, 2024 at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.
Bill was born June 6, 1936 to William and Clora (Enright) Sharp on a farm northwest of Corydon in Wayne County, Iowa. In 1942, Bill moved with his family to Harvard, Iowa, where he entered kindergarten at the one room country school house, from which he graduated 8th grade. Thus, laying claim to being a Harvard graduate. Bill attended four years of high school in Allerton, Iowa, and continued his education with three years of college at Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville, Missouri.
Bill served his country faithfully from 1958 - 1964 in the Army Reserves. On June 3, 1961, Bill was united in marriage to Phyllis Tometich at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born, Randy Eugene and William Brian.
Bill started working for Pester Marketing right out of high school and continued working there until his retirement in 1998. After retirement, Bill worked part time at Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville for 10 years. Bill also had a part time job with Hy-Vee, delivering baked goods and pharmacy. Bill always said he flunked retirement. In his free time, he attended his sons' and grandchildren's activities, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. He was involved in the Knights of Columbus and obtained his 3rd and 4th degree knighthood.
Left to honor Bill's memory are his wife of 63 years, Phyllis Sharp; his sons, Randy (Kathryn) Sharp and Brian (Therese) Sharp; his grandchildren, Amanda (Brian) Long, Hayleigh (Clayton) Kincart, Kassidy Sharp, Molly Sharp, Alex Sharp, Jaxson Sharp, and Jaylynn Sharp; great grandchildren, Duncan Long and Vera Long; his brother-in-law, Frank (Judy) Tometich; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clora Sharp; his sister, Alice Dresser; his brothers, Kenneth (Ethel) Sharp, Keith Sharp and Kermit (Sara) Sharp; granddaughter, Taylor Sharp; his grandparents; and his in-laws, Frank and Mary Tometich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, Monday, November 25, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Fr. Ron Hodges officiating. Burial will follow the service at Numa Cemetery with Military Rites conducted. A Visitation with a Rosary service will take place Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 3:00PM-5:00PM.
