Wilda Anne Marie Elmore Levis Wilda Anne Marie Elmore Levis was born July 15, 1924 to Charles Newton Elmore and Marie Arvilla Cox Elmore in Mercer County, near Saline, Missouri, at the home of her grandparents Green R. Elmore and Mary Belle Hamilton Elmore. She died March 3, 2011 at the age of 86. Her survivors are husband Delrein J. Levis, daughter Sylvia Anne (Trudi) Kramer Burton and husband Glen, step-daughter Nancy Levis Drake; grandchildren Kimberly Anne Moore Cross and husband Harold, Antony Charles William Gibson, and Donald Moore survived by Julia Gayle Moore; great-grandchildren Kade Edward Wills, Kacey Jules Wills, Lindsay Ann Cross, Courtney Marie Cross, Rebecca Anne Moore, Truman Neil Moore, Victoria Jean Moore, Lauren Gayle Moore, and Lincoln Andrew Moore. Wilda is also survived by brother Charles Marvin Elmore and wife Dorothy, and sister-in-law Doris Levis. She was preceded in death by her son Charles Jules White, sister Shirley Arvilla Elmore Perkins, brother Murray Burch Elmore, grandson Donald Neil Moore, step-grandson John Stephen Drake, and her parents. Also preceding her in death are brothers-in-law Marvin Perkins, Raymond Levis (Imogene), Dale Levis (Hertha), Merle Levis (Ida) and Howard Levis, and Delrein's son Dennis Levis. Wilda graduated from Corydon High School in 1941. She received her B.S. from Northwest Missouri State University (Maryville) in 1962, with credits from Iowa State University, Simpson, University of Missouri, University of Iowa, University of California, Fresno State, Bakersfield College, Pepperdine, Truman State University (Kirksville) Buena Vista, Indian Hills at Centerville and Ottumwa, as well as numerous workshops. Wilda began her working career at Smith's Ice Cream Parlor and Rexall Drug Store in Corydon while in high school. She went on to work at The Herald in Indianola - Star Reporter!, USO Travel's Aid during and after WWII in California and Florida; Colorado Thermoseal in Denver, various businesses in Miami and Florida, the Iowa State Department of Public Instruction and County Superintendent's Office. Wilda taught art instruction in many rural schools and began teaching full time in 1954. She taught classes in Madrid, Woodward, Leon, and Wayne Community (Corydon) in Iowa; Cainsville and Princeton in Missouri; and McFarland in California. After retiring in 1988 she was a substitute teacher in various schools in Wayne County. The last 19 years of Wilda's teaching career were spent at Wayne Community in Corydon. Although a rolling stone, Wilda at last gathered moss. As an educator, Wilda taught in every grade, one through eight, high school business subjects and the social sciences. She substituted also in head start, kindergarten, home economics, agriculture, physical education and music. Wilda enjoyed riding horses, crocheting and art; however, her family was her hobby and the main love of her life.
