Wilda Dodson's Obituary
Wilda June (Scott) Dodson, daughter of Roy C. and Bertha (McCloud) Scott, was born June 12, 1935, near Newtown, Missouri. She passed away May 14, 2012 following a lengthy battle with heart disease and dementia. Wilda grew up on farms in the Newtown area, attending country schools until high school where she attended Ravanna High. Wilda was a talented basketball player and was captain of the basketball team for two years. Her love for basketball continued and in later years she greatly enjoyed following the basketball careers of her granddaughters, particularly traveling to Texas and later to the 2000 Girls' State Tournament. Wilda was united in marriage to Bobby Lee Dodson, December 31, 1955, at the Otterbein Church near Ravanna. During their early-married years Bob and Wilda lived and worked in Kansas City, Missouri. When Bob was drafted into the Army, they spent time living in Fort Hood, Texas and Germany. Traveling in Europe was a highlight for Wilda during this time. Wilda returned to the United States just prior to the birth of their first child, Kevin Scott. Upon Bob's discharge the family returned to live and work in Kansas City for a brief time until they were able to move closer to 'home'. The family moved to rural Corydon, Iowa, where Wilda assumed duties of full time wife and mother. In 1962 Bob and Wilda purchased the family farm west of Corydon. The family grew quickly with the addition of Kristi Sue and finally Bobby Kent. Wilda continued to be a full time homemaker, bookkeeper, mom and 'farmhand' as well as baking pies that were sold at the Allerton Sale Barn on sale day. She started her 'career' in 1986 as a Home Health Aide, a job which she greatly enjoyed primarily due to interacting with the clients and her 'bosses' Teri and Dorine. In addition to work, Wilda enjoyed attending the activities her grandchildren participated in through school and 4-H. Wilda enjoyed traveling particularly the fall trips to Branson and southeastern Missouri to visit her favorite nieces and nephew and their families. Wilda was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Vera Nell Chipps, Viva Clark Arnote, and Wilford C. Scott, brothers-in-law Wade Chipps, Clair Clark, Neil Arnote, niece Rita Clark, nephew Roger Clark, as well as in-laws Hobert C. and Jean Dodson, and brother-in-law Tommy Maring.
