WILBUR THATCHER Obituary's Obituary
Wilbur Ralph Thatcher, 89, of Corydon, IA passed away at Wayne County Hospital in Corydon on February 6, 2015. Wilbur was born in Bethlehem, IA on October 18, 1925 to parents Carl and Treva (Green) Thatcher. He graduated from Promise City High School in 1942 and married Mary Michael, his high school sweetheart, on July 5, 1945. Wilbur entered the army in 1945 and spent a year in Tokyo working with the military government before returning home to Iowa. He purchased his Benton township farm in 1948 where he maintained his residence until 1995. During this time, he farmed and carried mail for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1963, he and his father Carl founded Thatcher Implement, an International Harvester farm equipment company, where he worked until his retirement in 1984. His time at Thatcher Implement marked the highlight of his career. In 1995, Wilbur and Mary sold the farm and moved to Corydon, IA. Wilbur was a member of the Corydon United Methodist Church. He enjoyed country music, ice cream, and a comfortable recliner. He regularly mailed greeting cards to his family and never missed a birthday, Valentine's Day or Christmas. Wilbur is preceded in death by parents, Carl and Treva Thatcher, wife Mary Thatcher, son Steven Thatcher, and brother Marvin Thatcher. He will be missed by son Douglas Thatcher and his wife Jan of LaGrange, KY, daughter-in-law Debbie Thatcher of Poplar Bluff, MO, 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
