Wilbur "J.R." Minard's Obituary
Wilbur 'J.R.' Minard, age 53, of Unionville, Iowa, departed this world Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born the son of Wilbur and Jennie (Christy) Minard on August 8, 1950 in Centerville, Iowa. He received his education in the Army.On August 31, 1972, J. R. was united in marriage to Roberta Parcell in Lancaster, Missouri. He served his country during the Vietnam War, receiving various medals and commendations, including: National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Expert (Pistol) Combat Infantryman Badge; Sharpshooter (Rifle); and Expert (M-60 MG). J.R. spent most of his life working in the Construction Industry Operating Heavy Equipment as well as being a farm hand for Dick Burger.J.R. is survived by: his wife, Roberta Minard of Unionville, Iowa; son, Jeremy Minard, and his wife, June, of Seymour, Iowa; daughter, Lacey Cowan of Kansas City, Missouri; his mother, Jennie Sacco of Centerville, Iowa; two brothers, Walter Minard of Nanpa, Idaho and Richard Minard of Suffolk, Virginia; three sisters, Emma Leopard of Plano, Iowa, Donna Brandon of Centerville, Iowa and Sandi Robbins of Cincinnati, Iowa; as well as nine grandchildren, Maria, Dustin, Trevor, Tristin, Chris, Dalton, Mason, Cheryl and Lexi.He was preceded in death by: his father, Wilbur Minard; step-father, Vince Sacco; sister, Virginia Mae Minard; nephew, Eddie Brandon; and two brother-in-laws, Harold Leopard and Jack Bowen.The body was cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.Memorials can be made to the family and can be left at or mailed to the To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Wilbur "J.R."
