Wendell Tait, age 69 of Mystic, Iowa died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
He was born September 24, 1940, in Mystic the son of Emory and Merle Morgan Tait. Wendell attended grade school in Clarkdale and graduated from Centerville High School. On November 11, 1962, (Veteran's Day) he was united in marriage to Sara Sue Stevenson at the Moulton United Methodist Church. During their next 47 years of marriage they endured his tour in the United States Army (Vietnam Veteran). Wendell (Tater, by many of his friends) was a bulldozer operator starting with Porter Wagnall Quarries, then for L& W Quarries and later for Vern Mott Construction. He worked for Deere and Company and retired from Appanoose County Secondary Roads. After retirement, he drove a bus for the Centerville School System. Through this long career Wendell farmed and raised cattle. Wendell was a caring man who never met a stranger. He loved bike rides with his friends to various communities. Wendell was a member of Masonic Lodge #588 in Mystic where he was a 32 Degree Mason and a third generation Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the York Rite, KAABA Shrine, the Mystic American Legion #340, a Walnut Township trustee, and a member of the Mystic Christian Church.
Wendell is survived by his wife Sara, daughter Natalie (John) Close of Mystic, son Steven Tait of Mystic, grandchildren Trevor Stroup of Ankeny, IA, Tristyn Stroup of Mystic, Emory Max Tait of Centerville, brother Ronald (Cherie) Tait of Des Moines, IA, and a sister Donna (Howard) Clark of Fairfield, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents Emory and Merle Tait.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Friends may call all day Tuesday at Lange Funeral Home with the family present from 5-9 PM with Masonic Services at 7 PM. Cremation will follow visitation. Burial of the cremains will follow the memorial service on Wednesday in the Elgin Cemetery north of Mystic with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post # 340, Mystic. Memorials have been established to Mercy Hospice, Walnut Masonic Lodge #588, or to the family and may be left at the funeral Home. Condolences may be left at www.langefh.com.
