Wayne Sheston's Obituary
Wayne Sheston , age 66 of Centerville died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Golden Age Care Center.
Wayne was born July 15, 1940 in Des Moines, the son of Tony and Dixie (Swan) Sheston. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1958 and later completed his AA degree from Indian Hills Community College. He married Martha Jane Dillinger August 19, 1961 at Centerville.
Wayne was a policeman on the Centerville Police Department before joining the DCI (Dept of Criminal Investigation). He traveled extensively for the DCI, speaking and teaching in the area of crime prevention in particular. He retired from the DCI after a 23-year career, which was followed by a period of teaching criminal justice at Indian Hills Community College. In addition, he farmed and was the owner/operator of Wayne's Gun Hut. He also served the community for eight years on the Appanoose County Board of Supervisors.
Wayne was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, the National Rifle Association, the Retired State Police Officers Association, the State Association of Chiefs of Police and Peace Officers, the BPO, the Elks, and the Turkey Federation.
Wayne is survived by his wife Jane Sheston of Centerville, two daughters Stacey Sheston of Sacramento, CA, and Susanne (Susie) Sheston and her husband Bryan Stanley of Salt Lake City, Utah,- by his aunts and uncles, Bonnie Talbot of Centerville, Mary Jo Carmichael of Warsaw, MO, Norma and Chuck Katich of Des Moines, Paul and Ann Sheston of Centerville, Bill and Helen Sheston of Dubuque, and by brother-in-law William Dillinger and his family, as well as by numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Dixie Sheston.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held Wednesday 11:30 AM, January 24, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Ron Will officiating. Friends may call all day Tuesday at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 PM. A prayer Service will be held Tuesday evening at 6 Pm at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A memorial has been established to the Wayne Sheston St. Mary's School Memorial Fund and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th St., Centerville, IA, 52544.
