Wayne Eugene "Gene" Rinehart's Obituary
Wayne Eugene "Gene" Rinehart, age 94, of Richmond, Virginia, died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Henrico Doctors Hospital in Richmond. He was born the son of Henry L. and Eva (Walker) Rinehart on November 30, 1912 near Plano, Iowa and was known to everyone as Gene. He received his education in a Rural Appanoose County Country School.On June 13, 1942, Gene was united in marriage to Mildred Elaine Campbell in Chillicothe, Missouri and settled in and around Centerville and Walnut City. Gene worked on various family farms for most of his youth and for a short time in Wyoming, where he would tell about snow coming in through the cracks in the walls during winter. He rode in rodeo and broke horses in his early years. Shortly after the birth of Lawrence, Gene moved to southern California in 1945, to seek his fortune in oil, in the nearby cities of Long Beach and Wilmington. Daughter, Linda was born in 1948. He retired in 1977 after 32 years of hard work from Champlin Petroleum Co. He enjoyed RV traveling w/his family and traveled throughout the western U.S. and Canada during retirement. Part of those travels he enjoyed most, was coming back to Iowa to be on the family farm and work in the fields where he spent his youth. Gene always liked working outside whether at his home or on the farm. In 2002 Gene and Mildred moved to Richmond, Virginia to live near Daughter Linda and the grandchildren. He was a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church in Anaheim, California for more than 45 years.He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, James Rinehart and Ora Rinehart.Gene is survived by: his wife, Mildred Rinehart of Richmond, Virginia; a daughter, Linda Jean Rinehart (Cross) of Glen Allen, Virginia; and a son, Larry James Rinehart of Bakersfield, California; a sister, Marilyn Pister of Centerville, Iowa; and five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 11 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Conrad Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at the Concord Cemetery northwest of Mystic, Iowa.
