Wanneta M. Lee's Obituary
Wanneta M. Lee, age 87 of Centerville died Tuesday March 25, 2008 at Golden Age Care Center.
Wanneta was born May 24, 1920, the daughter of Tom and Golda (Childress) Carter in Centerville, Iowa. She was raised in Centerville and graduated from Centerville High School with the class of 1937. She married Jack Lee on April 17, 1938 at the Presbyterian Manse in Centerville, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1993. Wanneta worked for Raymond's in Centerville for several years. She was devoted to her family and loved taking care of her grandchildren. Wanneta's family enjoyed many home cooked meals prepared by her, including the chocolate chip cookies she was well known for. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Centerville, spending countless hours donating her time in the community through the church's outreach committee. She was also a member of the Mary Circle, a ladies organization within the church. Wanneta was a member of the American Legion Auxillary and the Eagles Organization. She was an avid fan of the men's University of Iowa Hawkeye Basketball Team. Wanneta enjoyed spending time outdoors, which included working in her flower garden.
Wanneta is survived by her two children, a daughter Deanna Allen and her special friend Paul Burnside of Centerville, Iowa, and a son Carter Lee and his special friend Lola Duran of Overland Park, Kansas; five grandchildren, Randy (Shelly) Lee of Johnston, Iowa, Missy Rice of Johnston, Iowa, Johnna (Paul) Tavianini of Burbank, California, JeNel (Mike) Barth of Centerville, Iowa, and Jason T. (Sarah) Allen of Ankeny, Iowa; ten great grandchildren; a sister Vivian Carter of Centerville, Iowa; a niece Jackie (Jeff) Meier of Eric, Illinois; and a sister-in-law Dorothy Francis of Clear Lake, Iowa. Wanneta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack Lee; a sister Aletha Williams; a nephew Tom Williams; and a son-in-law Jerry Allen.
A visitation will be held Friday evening with the family present from 5-7 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 102 N. Main St., Centerville. Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Centerville. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
