Wanetta Fern Richardson Obituary's Obituary
Wanetta Fern Everman Richardson, the oldest child of John Franklin Everman and Donna May Everman was born in Wayne County, Iowa on April 3, 1920 and passed away at the Chariton Rehab and Care Center on April 25, 2014 at the age of 94 years and 22 days. Fern attended several country schools in Wayne Count and Corydon High School. On October 1, 1938 she married John William Richardson, Jr. They were married 64 years. To this union eight children were born. She worked as a caregiver for several families and at the then new Wayne County Hospital, but her primary role was taking care of her family. Feeding, clothing and keeping house for her large family and helping John with the plumbing business was a full time job. During the 1956-1957 school year she had eight children in school. She made sure they all attended school and graduated. She was proud of her large family and the many years of military service they served. One of her greatest joys, albeit a lot of work, was organizing and cooking a reunion meal when all the families could get together. It was not uncommon to have thirty plus people to feed but she loved feeding her 'thrashing crew'. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John W. Richardson, Jr., brothers Gerald Everman and Jack Everman, sister Wanda Prather, son Larry Richardson, grandson Michael Leroy Richardson, great grandson Jason Ray Richardson and great granddaughter Kayla Whitney Torres. Surviving Fern are son David Richardson (June) of Russell, Iowa, daughter-in-law Carolyn Richardson of Manteca, California, son James Richardson (Trula) of Rancho Cordova, California, Kendall Richardson (Arlene) of Corydon, Iowa, Dennis Richardson (Terri) of Des Moines, Iowa, Leta Richardson of Des Moines, Iowa, Rita Preston (Doug) of Des Moines, Iowa, and Randy Richardson (Valerie) of Corydon, Iowa. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Randy Ray Richardson of Provo, Utah, Vicki Simmons and family of Stockton, California, Doni Richardson and family of Manteca, California, Melissa Gore and family of Phoenix, Arizona, Judith Richardson and family of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Chad Hall and Son of Corydon, Iowa, Kevin Hall and family of Chariton, Iowa, Laurie Hall of Kansas City, Missouri, Todd Williams of Des Moines, Iowa, Tessa Yawn and family of Des Moines, Iowa, and John William Richardson III of Corydon, Iowa, eight step-grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren, and three step great great children. Also surviving are two sisters Helen Wyatt and Mardelle Blaine. She was a long time member of American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 68 of Corydon. Memorials may be given to the Care Initiatives Hospice or the American Legion Post 68 of Corydon.
