Wanda P. Squires' Obituary
Wanda P. Squires, age 84, of Centerville, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born the daughter of John S. and Gladys M. (Fort) Nichols on August 24, 1931 in Red Oak, Iowa. She received her education at the Red Oak Community Schools.On June 11, 1950, Wanda was united in marriage to Edward 'Freeman' Squires in Unionville, Iowa. She worked for many years at McGraw-Edison and in later years at the Daily Iowegian in Centerville.Wanda's greatest joy was her family and cooking up their favorite treats. Her famous chicken and noodles were always a special request. You could count on her to be in her kitchen starting mid-November making up her Christmas goodies. Family and friends received plates of goodies including sugar cookies, bon bons, and varieties of fudges. During the spring and Summer months she could be found admiring her several flower gardens, and watching the hummingbirds flutter at her feeders. Her passions over the years have included travelling, attending school functions of grandkids, family gatherings, gardening, baking, crocheting, sewing, and her large collection of angels.She is preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Freeman Squires on May 15, 1994; sons, Mick Smith and Fred "Eddie" Squires; daughter-in-law, Nadine Squires; grandchildren, Hope and Faith Squires; sisters, Lois Nichols and Juanita Alm; brothers, Richard Nichols, Jim Nichols, Charles Nichols and Jerry Nichols.Wanda is survived by: her son, Daniel Squires of Centerville, Iowa; a daughter, Vicki Hoffman and her husband, Mike of Centerville, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Smith of Westbrook, Maine; brother, Bob Nichols of Oskaloosa, Iowa; sisters, Frances Doughten of Ankeny, Iowa, Karen Mastin of Melrose, Iowa and Louise Collins of Melcher, Iowa; grandchildren, Nora Smith, Shelley Smith, Don Smith, Daniel Smith, Jennifer Anderson, Amanda Watts, Scott Squires, Zachary Squires, Chara Porter, Damon Hoffman, Payden Hoffman; and great grandchildren, Sydnee and Bradly Watts, Seth and Ashlynn Squires, Steven and Wyatt Porter, Brianne and Colton Dibiase, Brittany and Ashley Heintz, Scott, Levi, Jaedon Smith, Emalynn and Darien Smith and great great grandchildren, Corbin, Audrey, and Austin.Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Arlen Pence officiating and burial to follow at the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held from 2 pm until 8 pm on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm.
