Wanda Ilene Peck's Obituary
Wanda Peck, 91, of Corydon, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown.
Wanda was born to Oscar & Carrie (Wills) Jessip in Sioux City, Iowa, on September 24, 1930. She was united in marriage on August 9, 1949, to Richard Peck. From this union came three children: Grady, Mark and Carolyn. Wanda and Richard remained on the century family farm for 52 years.
Wanda enjoyed so many things through her 91 years. On the family farm, she loved tending to her garden and mowing the very large yard with her riding lawn mower. She also spent a lot of time washing windows which was a standard family joke as it was thought she was needlessly washing them WAY too often!! When she wasn't outdoors helping around the farm, she loved doing embroidery work, especially on tea towel sets, and was proud to say her sets were purchased as gifts and sent to several states and even to Canada.
Wanda was an all-around wonderful cook. She was famous for her homemade noodles, chocolate- walnut fudge, and rice krispie treats which were all enjoyed at the holidays. And who could forget her amazing chocolate sheet cake which was the most requested dessert not only by family, but also for many community functions. Wanda loved sharing her joy of cooking and special family recipes.
Wanda was a member of the Women's Bowling League for many years and enjoyed traveling to several state tournaments with her teammates. Wanda was a great friend to many and was active in her community as a member of the Mother's Club in Millerton, Iowa, as well as The Kwilting Klatter Klub, and United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
Wanda loved playing cards. She was especially competitive when playing Skip-Bo, and no family function was complete without playing this, sometimes for hours! Wanda and Richard enjoyed family vacations and the trips they took with good friends and family for many years. Wanda also loved music and dancing with the love of her life, Richard. But most of all, Wanda loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children Mark Lyle Peck (Julie), Carolyn Rodish (Dennis); daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Peck; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Lola Relph and numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Peck; son, Grady Peck; parents; and siblings, Donald, Leo, Bobby, Johnny Jessip and an infant sister.
Officiating at her services will be Brian Shelley and extended family member, Desmund Adams.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at the Corydon United Methodist Church. Interment will immediately follow at the Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am- 1:00 pm at the church. Memorials may be given to the Corydon United Methodist Church, Glenwood Place of Marshalltown or Iowa River Hospice of Marshalltown.
