Wanda Brown's Obituary
Wanda Marie (Sullivan) Brown, 88 of Promise City, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Wayne County Hospital surrounded by her family. Wanda joined her late husband Robert Lee Brown in heaven 21 years to the date of his passing. Wanda was born to John Everett and Adda Marie (Sigler) Sullivan on March 19, 1932 at her parents' home in Liberty Township, Lucas County, Iowa. She received her education graduating from Corydon High School in 1950. After graduation Wanda moved to Des Moines and was employed at Bankers Life for a short period of time. On June 24, 1951, Wanda was united in marriage to Robert Lee (Bob) Brown, prior to his Air Force Deployment in Korea. Upon Bob's return from Korea they moved to Bossier City, Louisiana where they were stationed until 1955. After Bob was discharged from the Air Force they returned to Wayne County, where she worked alongside Bob on the farm. To this union came three children: Mark, Kim and Troy. Throughout her life she enjoyed numerous activities including playing in a softball league, quilting club, neighborhood card parties, scrapbooking, camping, cooking, traveling to Bob's horse shows where she baked sweets for friends, antiquing, reading, spending time with her grandchildren, and wintering in Arizona with her beloved brother Sully and sister-in-law Ada. Wanda created the business, Pillows By Wanda where she crafted pillows out of vintage linens. These pillows were displayed in her cottage home that she designed and in recent years had remodeled. Wanda was very proud of her home where she displayed many of her collections. Wanda had a passion for traveling. Throughout her travels she visited 45 states and 7 countries. She loved taking trips with her granddaughters and passed on her love of traveling to them. Her grandchildren were a very important part of her life. Wanda was a member of New Providence Baptist Church in Confidence, Iowa. Survivors include her children: Mark Brown (Joyce), Kim Swearingin (Tom), Troy Brown (Diana), grandchildren: Allison Brown, Kelsey Moran (Mike), Jamie Swearingin, Jenna Porter (Chase), Katelyn Swearingin, Riley Brown, Reese Brown, Destiny Brown, Dustin Lovett, Dakota Lovett, four great grandchildren, sister; Donna Herndon (Jim), and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, Robert Lee Brown and brother Dwight Sullivan. There will be a private funeral service held at 10:30 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. There will be a viewing held on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. We will be following the Governor's guidelines so attendance will be restricted to no more than 10 people in the building at one time for the viewing. A private graveside service will be held in the Confidence Cemetery immediately following the service.
