Waltraud Fettig Perkins was born at Otterberg Germany on April 10, 1937 to Heinrich and Katharina (Wenz) Fettig. She met the love of her life, Shannon Perkins while he was stationed in Germany. On January 15, 1957, Wally and Shannon were united in marriage. To this union was born four sons Raymond, Wesley, Gordon and Tracy.
Wally worked very hard studying for her American citizenship, which she proudly earned in 1965. She was so knowledgeable with American government and history, she was asked by local schools and college to give talks on these subjects.
Wally was an equal partner with Shannon in farming and worked for a time at Berkley Fishing Company. She loved her big vegetable garden as well as her beloved roses. Wally was an excellent cook and baker. The meals served at her table were enjoyed by countless family, friends and neighbors.
Wally could do anything she set her mind to. She was an accomplished musician. As a child, she played the zither in her town's orchestra. She played piano in church and was able to play guitar, accordion and the harmonica. Wally was a skilled seamstress. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Wally was a talented artist. For several years, she and Shannon attended craft shows, selling her beautifully painted works, many wooden items of which Shannon designed and cut.
Following Shannon's retirement in 2004, they made their home in Seymour Iowa.
Wally was a loving wife and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. May she rest in peace, forever in our hearts.
Left to honor Wally's memory are sons Raymond (Jackie) Perkins, Wesley Perkins, and Gordon (Lisa) Perkins; grandchildren Cheyne (Aimee) Perkins, Sheena (Zach) Robinson, Nick (Chrissy) Perkins, Natalie Perkins (Ben Baker) and Raegan (David) Paulsen; great grandchildren Erin Marquis, Jocelyn Marquis, Kenzie Robinson, Ashtyn Robinson, Heston Robinson and Traeger Perkins; sister Roswitha Poller; sisters-in-law Linda Fettig and Nancy Robbins; as well as several extended family members and friends.
