Walter Hansen, age 85 of Centerville Died Monday August 8, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center, Centerville.
Walter Joachiam Hansen was born June 4, 1920 on the prairie near Winner South Dakota, he was one out of seven children. His parents farmed until he was five years old and the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. There he attended schools and graduated from East High School in Des Moines, Iowa. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1942 and served until 1945. He married Joanna Myers in 1942 after World War II. He then farmed near Pleasantville, Iowa until 1959 when he moved to Centerville, IA. There he worked for Farm Bureau from 1959 to his retirement in 1987. He took insurance training at Milwaukee Wisconsin. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Centerville, IA; Jackson Masonic Lodge #42; Knights Temples; and Kaaba Shrine. he was a scout master for eight years; commander of the Coast Guard at Rathbun Lake; and a member of the American legion. He enjoyed fishing and traveling all over the United States, Israel and Egypt. A leader in King Fisher Sunday School Class. He is survived by sons Steve and his wife Marge and Colby Ks; Delbert and his wife Lois of Cheyenne Wyoming; Keith and his wife Judy of Marion, IA; a sister Louise Havens of Pleasantville, IA; brothers William and his wife Alice of Carlisle, IA; Otto of Winterhaven, Fl; Wife Vivian, sons William Huisman and wife Roberta of rural Exline, IA; and Rodrick Huisman and wife Barbara of Ft. Dodge, Ia; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; Sister in law Dakota Hansen of Pleasantville, Ia; and sister in law Doris Hansen of Whidbey Island, Washington. Preceding him in death: His parents; wife Joanna; brothers Emil Hansen of Pleasantville, IA; Henry Hansen of Whidbey Island, Washington; sister Johanna Smedley if Marshalltown, IA and her spouse; Dee Hansen wife of Otto of Winterhaven, Fl.
