Vivian Rose Seay's Obituary
Vivian Rose Seay, age 76 of the Moravia, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born on February 5, 1941 in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Andrew Charles and Dorothy (Delya) Pazera. Vivian graduated from Portage High School in Portage, Indiana.
Vivian was united in marriage to Robert 'Don' Seay on October 1, 1960 in Lake Station, Indiana, and to this union of marriage, a daughter was born, Laurie Lynn Seay. The couple celebrated forty-five years of marriage together. Don passed away on August 22, 2006.
Vivian would have been quick to share that she had a wonderful, rich life. She was blessed to find her beloved husband, Don, in high school and was able to spend many happy decades together in marriage. Vivian said that her happiest times were spent just drinking coffee in the early morning with Don and discussing Laurie and Jacob and laughing over everyday events. Vivian and Don were the model of what most people aspire to in marriage: support, love, comfort and security and she was devastated when he died.
She was a stay-at-home mom during Lauries childhood until the family moved to Iowa in 1979. She worked for a number of years in the dietary department at the Centerville Care Center, and later in the Hy-Vee Deli. Vivian always had a smile and a cup of coffee for anyone who needed them.
She was always proud of her family. Her greatest joy came in 2000 when grandson Jacob was born. She was present at his birth and they shared a synergy ever since then. Every weekend would find them feeding ducks, sliding down the slide, drawing on the driveway with sidewalk chalk or playing with Thomas the Train. Time matured the interests, but they still could be found on the phone to each other every day talking about both everything and nothing. The truly important things in life.
Vivian was always supportive of her daughter, Laurie. Although they were very different, they shared a common love of family and its uppermost importance in life. They shared caring for Don and Dorothy, both when they were dying and made it their priority that they be as comfortable as possible. Many happy hours were spent doing Jacob-centered activities that were enjoyed by all.
Later in life, Vivian was able to find a new measure of happiness with Dons brother, Paul. They shared family and history and were able to share a lot of good times and memories. Vivian said that life was easy with Paul because he loved Don, too. She felt able to share memories and be sad when she needed to be.
Throughout her life, Vivian always enjoyed being around the lake and fishing. She also was a voracious reader and loved to go shopping with family. Movies and TV were also enjoyable to her and she could frequently be found with a crossword puzzle book in her hand. She particularly enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino to play the nickel or quarter slot machines. No one ever got more excited to hit a jackpot than Vivian Seay.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Lynn Seay (Fianc, Jeff Skalicky) of Ankeny, Iowa; a grandson, Jacob Robert Seay of Ankeny, Iowa; Vivian's significant other, Paul Seay of Moravia, Iowa; a brother, Andrew Charles (Linda) Pazera Jr., of La Porte, Indiana; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Robert 'Don' Seay.
