Virginia Smith's Obituary
Virginia Smith, 73 of Allerton passed away on January 23, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Virginia Lee (Wilmot) Smith was born to Hamilton and Irene (Malone) Wilmot on August 23, 1944 in Corydon, Iowa. Virginia was married to Fred Eugene Smith in 1961 and to this union four children were born: Edna, Ellen, Freddie, and Cindy. Virginia loved to cook for her family. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, dancing and her most favorite times were when she was able to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her four children: Edna Faye Carr (Don), Ellen Irene Smith, Freddie Lee Smith (Nina), and Cindy Ann Hoelting (Aaron), grandchildren: Eugene Carr, Dewayne Simmerman, Donnie Simmerman (Chelsey), Daniel Simmerman (Shonna), Dennis Simmerman, Victoria Smith, Scott Hoelting, and Abigail Hoelting, great grandchildren: Wyatt, Dixie, Macayla, Moriah and Derek Simmerman, sisters: Marie Jennings, Mary Warnick (Dennis Henderson), June Jackson (Ken), Kay Hersey (Stephen) and numerous other extended family members and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Smith. Funeral services will be Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with Brian Shelley officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Allerton Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service from 10-11 a.m. on Friday.
