Virginia Grace Hayes' Obituary
Virginia Grace Hayes, 96, of Centerville passed away February 24, 2023 after a 24-hr. stay at The Carpenter House in River Ridge, Louisiana, a hospice care center. She had been living with her daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Al Kohorst, who providedloving care for her,in their home in Destrehan, Louisiana since her move there in November 2014.
She was born to H. Martin Rovn and Grace (Krause) Rovn May 18, 1926 in Estherville, Iowa. She and Robert C. Hayes were united in marriage September 19, 1948 in Armstrong, Iowa.
Virginia graduated from Armstrong High School in 1944 and University of Iowa School of Nursing in 1947 at which time she moved to Centerville to be employed as an office nurse for her uncle, Dr. R.R. Edwards.
She was a member and elder of Drake Avenue Christian Church, past president and 60 year member of Chapter ER, T.T.T. when it disbanded in 2012; past president and 50 year member of Chapter NB, P.E.O. when it disbanded in 2013 and a member of Chapter KA, P.E.O. at the time of her death and a former member of Outlook Study Club and Appanoose Country Club. She was also involved with a group of ladies that met for breakfast once-a-week and thoroughly enjoyed her time with them.
Virginia is survived by her two daughters: Melissa Swett (Richard) of Maryville, Tennessee and Melinda Kohorst (Alan) of Destrehan, Louisiana and two grandsons, Aaron Swett and John Kohorst.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 57 years, Robert Hayes and many other relatives on both sides of the Hayes and Rovn families.
Visitation will take place the Thomas Funeral Home on Monday, March 6th from 10;00 - 11:00 am. A private graveside service will be held for the family afterward.
