Violet Genevieve Garr's Obituary
Violet Genevieve Garr, age 86, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia on November 5, 2025.
Violet was born on December 31, 1938, in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Lela (Kirkpatrick) Thomas. She graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1957.
Over the years, Violet made a lasting impact in the community, working as a dietary aide in nursing homes, where she touched many lives with her kindness and care.
Violet had a love for life and a passion for family. She especially cherished spending time with her loved ones and made every holiday memorable, particularly Thanksgiving, when she delighted in cooking for her family. Violet was also known for her love of bingo, trips to the casino, and her adventures in Las Vegas. Traveling and going on cruises were some of her greatest joys, and she took every opportunity to explore new places.
Above all, Violet treasured her family deeply. Her love, warmth, spunky attitude, and unwavering support will be missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish Violet’s memory are her children, Cindy Garr, Kelly (Teri) Garr, Tammy (Patrick) Williamson, Terry Garr, Timmy Garr, and Stacey (Mark) Buckallew; her sister, Lila Lulu Thomas; 20 grandchildren, Heather (John) Wells, Amber Barber (Sandy Tripp), Cortney (Bobby) Barger, Desiree Craver, Danielle (Cody) Meredith, Josh Clopton, Christian Garr, Shaeleigh Garr (Kyle Elarton), Steven Garr, Chanda Marberry (Brian Meeker), Bobby (Murphy) Hayes, Amanda (Joe) Meeker, Tasha Hanson, Jared Williams, Kyle Garr, Josh Garr, Brett Garr, Dylan (Hannah) Baugher, Skyler Baugher (Miria Jean), and Dalton Buckallew; 53 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Cortland Garr; her parents, Albert and Lela Thomas; two stillborn daughters, Tina and Lena; and two daughters, Becky Williams and Teresa Garr.
Funeral services for Violet will be held at 10:00AM, Monday, November 10, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Burial will follow the service at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will take place Sunday, November 9, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 1:00PM-3:00PM.
