VIOLA STEWART Obituary's Obituary
Viola Mae (Jennings) Stewart, daughter of James Carlton Jennings and Samantha Jane (Dooley) Jennings was born in rural Linville, Iowa on January 22, 1922 and passed away at her home in rural Allerton under Hospice Care on January 11, 2015 at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 11 days. She was the last surviving child of fifteen. On August 17, 1949 she was united in marriage to Walter 'Lee' Stewart and helped raise his eight children whose mother had passed away in 1946. Their marriage was then blessed with four children: Irma Harrington (friend Cecil Smith) of Allerton; Kathy (Steve) Hitt of Weldon; Jeff (Cindy) Stewart of Corydon; Danny Stewart and (friend Melissa Mitchell) of Allerton. She is also survived by her step children: Lorna (Ross) Cochran of Lucas; Betty Goddard of Arvada, CO; Dorothy Clow of Clio; Rexine Jellison of Powersville, MO (and friend Larry Lutz); step daughter-in-laws; Melvina Stewart of Allerton and Sharon Stewart of New Liberty, IA. Grandchildren: Pam (Kevin) McCoy of Boone; Chris (Doug) Krouse of IL; Marty (Bobby) Hitt of Lucas; Nick (Stephanie) Hitt of Leroy; Jasan (Suzie) Hitt of Derby; Sarah (Chad) Peck of Promise City; Lorah (Ryan) Arnold of Corydon and a host of great-grandchildren, step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Viola was a member of the Allerton Baptist Church and thoroughly enjoyed reading the bible and westerns, listening to country music and seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Before her failing health she enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing cards, raising chickens and milk goats. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lee (Nov. 1994); nine sisters, five brothers; Stepdaughters: Reva Zimmerman; Joan Laughlin, Stepsons: Raymond Stewart; Eugene 'Nick' Stewart, Step Son-In-Laws: Kenneth Zimmerman; John Laughlin and Merlin Jellison. Randolph-Black Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A memorial is being established to Hospice of Central Iowa ( a non-profit organization).
