Vesta Parker's Obituary
Vesta June Parker, age 88, of Chariton, IA, formerly of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Chariton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born June 6, 1924 in Wayne County, IA, daughter of the late Fred Edward Squires and Katie Cecil Buttz. On January 10, 1942, in Princeton, MO she was married to Arbery Leon Parker.
Vesta was an avid stamp collector and enjoyed going to and having garage sales. She worked for many years doing odd jobs and moving around Iowa and Arkansas following Arbery's jobs. She received a GED in her later life. She had been in failing health for several years. She was a member of the Corydon, IA Church of God.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Lorene Whitsel of Green Ridge, MO and one son, Ernest Milo Parker, also of Green Ridge, 7 grandchildren, David, Connie, Carmen, Douglas, Sherry, Chad and Katherine, 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Patricia Ann who died in infancy, a sister, Nellie Squires and two brothers, Freddie Junior Squires and Edward Freeman Squires.
Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 1 pm at the Promise City Cemetery, Promise City, Iowa, with Pastor Rebecca Robb officiating. A memorial has been established in honor of Vesta and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
