Vesta Collette Wensel Obituary's Obituary
Vesta Collette (Warren) Wensel was taken home by her heavenly angels on September 17, 2011. Collette was born on July 29, 1915 to Willis and Golda Warren and she joined a sister Evelyn at their home in Warsaw, a community near Sewal, Iowa. The family later moved to Promise City where two brothers Cloyd (Bud) and Dale were born. They spent most of their lives on the farm owned by her Grandfather George Warren. Collette attended Promise City School except for two years when the family lived in Long Beach, California. She spent those two years at Long Beach Polytechnic High. Collette married Walter Wensel in August 1940. Shortly after their marriage, Walter enlisted in the Navy and served over seas during World War II. During this time, Collette worked at Solar Aircraft in Des Moines as a spot welder. After Walter's return three years later they purchased a farm near Promise City, where they lived for 40 years before moving to their home in Corydon. Collette and Walter had three children Georgia Rippee of Yuma, Arizona, Keith Wensel of Onawa, Iowa and Corinne Valencia of Phoenix, Arizona. As long as her health permitted, Collette was devoted to the Promise City Methodist Church. She was a true farmer's wife, working along side Walter in all their endeavors. She loved to make quilts and fancy work of all kinds. Preceding her in death were her husband in 1997, sister Evelyn, brothers Cloyd (Bud) and Dale, her mother and father, Golda and Willis Warren, Walter's mother and father, John and Nora Wensel, sisters-in-law Betty and Mylinda Wensel and brother-in-law Dean Wensel. Survivors include her children, sisters-in-law Virginia Warren of Stafford, Arizona and Betty Warren of Wichita, Kansas, daughter-in-law Beverly Wensel of Onawa, Iowa, six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
