Vernie Valee McCartney, age 85, of Moulton, Iowa, died Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Jessie H. and Vernie Eloda (Roads) Whithworth on September 29, 1925 in Worthington, Missouri. She graduated from the Worthington Community Schools.On September 29, 1942, Vernie was united in marriage to DeWayne David McCartney in Worthington, Missouri. She was a Seamstress and a Homemaker. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Moulton.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, DeWayne McCartney on August 9, 2008; sisters, Genevee Cook and Vivian Geneva Morgan.Vernie is survived by: her daughter, Eloda and her husband, Arthur Graham of Moulton, Iowa; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa with Rev. Reg Higginbottom officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery south of Glenwood, Missouri. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Moulton, Iowa with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to the American Legion in Moulton and left at or mailed to the funeral home.
