Verna Alice Besse's Obituary
Verna Alice Besse, age 93, of Centerville, Iowa, died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of George W. and Mary (Purkeypile) Corder on March 29, 1914 near Mendota, Missouri. In 1927, she and her parents moved to Cincinnati, Iowa and She graduated from the Centerville Community Schools. On November 30, 1940, Verna was united in marriage to Dow Besse in Unionville, Missouri. They made their home south of Cincinnati, Iowa until 1970 when they moved to Centerville, Iowa. They farmed for many years and owned their own meat packing plant. Verna joined the First Baptist Church and was baptized in the Chariton River east of Centerville. She was a great CB'er and her handle was 'Brandy'. She enjoyed talking to her friends as well as Co-op dinners and parties. Verna and Dow, enjoyed life with their many card playing friends and going dancing at non-alcoholic places, the fairs and any type of gathering.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Dow Besse on October 24, 1979; and her brother, Finis Corder.Verna is also survived by: nephew, Roger Corder of Nevada, Iowa and his children, Jared, Corey and Kelly and nephew, Larry Corder of Leesburg, Florida and his children, Steve and Janie.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 10:30 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Cincinnati, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 from 1 pm till 8 pm with the family present from 7 till 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery and can be left at the funeral home.
