Verlin D. Stocker's Obituary
Verlin D. Stocker, age 81 of Moravia, Iowa passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at his home.
He was born on October 27, 1932 to Milton and Bertha (Simmons) Stocker on the family farm in Monroe County, Iowa. In his youth Verlin attended Fairview Country School and later, graduated from Moravia High School.
Verlin spent his most of his life farming. His span in the agricultural field lasted over sixty years, beginning when he was in high school. It continued into his adult years when he made the decision to stay at home on the family farm and care for his parents. Verlin took care of both parents until their passing.
In his free time he enjoyed numerous hobbies, including hunting, gardening, canning, cooking, mushroom hunting and attending country music concerts. Verlin was known to be a master gardener, winning ""best of show"" two years consecutively at the Moravia Fall Festival for his gardening abilities. He was also a member of the Unionville, Iowa Methodist Church.
Verlin is survived by his special friend, Joan Hunt of Moravia, Iowa; five sisters, Betty (Harold) Gruwell of Marion, Iowa, Edna Dicks of Centerville, Bonnie Clancy of Ottumwa, Margret (Walter) Scott of Moravia, Margie Coghlan of Choctaw, Oklahoma; and a sister-in-law, Carleta Stocker of Moravia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; two brothers; two infant siblings; five brother-in-laws; and a sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Joan Ervin officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral from 10-11AM. Memorials have been established to either the Moravia Senior Citizen Meals or the Unionville, Iowa Methodist Church and may be given to Lange Funeral Home.
