Vera E. Wailes' Obituary
Vera E. Wailes, age 94, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Eli and Inezza (Boyer) Hiatt on June 22, 1909. Vera attended Moravia Community Schools.Vera was united in marriage to Dorin Wailes on June 22, 1927 in Mystic, Iowa. She was employed as a Bookkeeper for the Centerville Oil Company for more than 20 years. Vera was an active member of Drake Avenue Christian Church as well as a member of Christian Women's Fellowship and the 18-80 Club, she was a devoted Mother and Homemaker as well. She loved to play Bridge and Canasta as well as work with flowers and was active in the local Garden Club at one time. Vera and Dorin wintered for 42 years in McAllen, Texas. Vera was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Archie and Alvia Hiatt; sister, Essie Purvis; and son-in-law, Ivan Wright. She is survived by: her devoted husband, Dorin; daughter, Elahvonne Wright of Centerville, Iowa; grandson, Vaughn Wright and his wife Nancy of Dexter, Missouri; granddaughter, Marla Swesey and her husband, Mike, of Iowa City, Iowa; great grandsons Shawn Wright of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Shannon Wright of Springfield, Missouri; great granddaughters, Micah Swesey Caruth of Madison, Wisconsin and Marin Swesey of Kirksville, Missouri; as well as many nieces and nephews.Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Carl Heien and Rev. Vaughn Wright officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 from 1 PM till 8 PM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the family present from 6 PM till 8 PM.Memorials can be made either to the Drake Avenue Christian Church or the 18/80 Club and can be left at or mailed to the To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Vera E.
