Vera J Nickel's Obituary
Vera Jean (Brooks) Nickel, age 102 of Corydon, Iowa, passed away at Chariton Specialty Care on January 27, 2026.
Vera was born on March 30, 1923 in Unionville, Missouri, to Noah and Cora (Dennis) Brooks. She married George Nickel in 1943, and to this union two children were born: Beverley and Ronnie.
Throughout her life, Vera was very self-sufficient, and had a very green thumb. She loved her plants and her garden. She would take produce from her garden and can everything she could to eat over the winter. Her favorite animals were her cats. She was a member of the Bethany- Rebecca Lodge. Cleaning was Vera's passion, she cleaned for many businesses and people in the area. Vera never had a license, so if she needed to get anywhere she would walk every chance she could.
Vera is survived by her daughter, Beverley (Mike) Leonard; grandson, William Leonard; great granddaughters, Fayelynn Leonard and Alviee Evans; along with numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronnie Nickel; brother, Robert Brooks; sister, Ruby Skipper; grandchildren, Angela Leonard, Jacob Leonard, and Jeremy Leonard.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 1:00PM at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, one hour prior, starting at 12:00PM.
