Vera M. Harkins' Obituary
Vera ""Maxine"" (Clark) Harkins, age 86, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.
Maxine was born January 5, 1923, the daughter of Alfred and Hazel (Buck) Clark in Plano, Iowa. She grew up in Plano and graduated from Plano High School in 1941. She married Fred Fredrick in 1942. Maxine worked for Farrington Telephone Company in Centerville and the Rock Island Arsnel. Maxine was later employed with Union Carbide where she worked until her retirement.
Maxine enjoyed playing cards and she loved to dance. She was a member of the Plano Christian Church and Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Maxine is survived by her children, Ron Fredrick of Centerville, and Shirley White of Centerville; four brothers, Al Clark of Centerville, Laverne (Lorene) Clark of Seymour, Iowa, Ted (Louise) Clark of Centerville, and Arthur Clark of Keokuk, Iowa; a grandson, Ron (Amber) Fredrick of Victorville, California; two granddaughters, Dawn (Wayne) Sturtz of Dexter, Iowa and Julie Chance of Cambridge, Iowa; three great grandchildren, Danielle Sturtz of Watertown, New York, Amy Oshenessy of Nevada, Iowa and Sophia Fredrick of California; a great-great grandchild Deloris (Lola) Oshenessy of Nevada, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ivan, Jim, and Carless Clark; and a sister Helene Clark.
A celebration of life service will be held 1:30 PM, Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. Visitation will be held from 12-1:30 PM on Saturday at Lange Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family and may be left at or mailed to Lange Funeral Home in Centerville. Condolences may be left online at www.thomaslangefuneralhome.com.
