Venita Snyder's Obituary
Venita Lenora Snyder, 3rd child of King and Katie Landphair, was born July 30, 1921 in Decatur County Iowa. She passed into the arms of her Lord on January 23, 2021 surrounded by her family. Venita was a humble, but fearless servant, living her life with loving kindness, always respecting, forgiving, and enduring without complaint. She could take on a leadership role when she had to be but was most comfortable working silently behind the scene and being content at the back of the line. Along with many of her siblings, Venita started her school years at Pleasanton, Iowa and graduated from Leon High School. She married Paul Snyder on August 18th, 1941 and after being told she could not bear children gave birth to 2 daughters, Connie and Kay. Paul and Venita farmed most of their married life. Venita had many roles as a farm and house wife including driving the tractors, caring for the animals and helping during the calving season. She made many runs for machinery parts but only after a stop at the house to brush her hair, put on clean clothes and lipstick. She sewed for her girls, painted and papered the farm home, planted and preserved many gardens, but the most important role she played was cooking. She cooked for many farm hands over the years and not always with much notice. She co-managed Nick's cafe for several years in the late 60's and 70's. She was always determined and resourceful to work things out and get things done. Paul and Venita retired from the farm and moved to their home in Corydon in 1986. They were very active members of the Humeston and Corydon Baptist churches where Venita served many years in the church ladies circle. Venita was a member of PEO Chapter BR. When her husband Paul became ill, Venita faithfully cared for him in their home for 3 years until he passed in July of 2001. After Paul's death she did not want to stay idle and began helping her daughter Connie in the Gamble hardware store. She enjoyed checking in the truck and pricing but mostly, she loved helping the customers and talking with people she knew. Venita stayed in her own home until May of 2018 when her health required her to move to Murphy place in Corydon. On Feb 29, 2020 her daughter Connie with her husband James brought Venita to live out her life in their home in Corydon. Venita was preceded in death by her husband Paul, infant brother, sister LaVera Cowles and husband Dale, brother Wilbur Landphair and wife Nola, sister Blanch Gifford and husband Jim, brother Harl Landphair, brother Don Landphair, brother-in-law Dean Piper, sister-in-law Ada Belle Burrell and husband Roe, and son in law, Jim Snook.
