Venetah Poffenberger's Obituary
Venetah Poffenberger, age 99, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, April 7, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center's - Long Term Care in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Pearl N. and Lenna C. (Stevens) Parsons on April 24, 1908 in Garden Grove, Iowa. She graduated from Seymour High School in Seymour, Iowa and would later attend Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. On December 24, 1933, Venetah was united in marriage to Charles J. Poffenberger in Salem, Arkansas. She taught school for a time before going to work for Ver Baer Photography Studio, Jensen's Clothing Store, Allen's Card and Gifts and later would work for both the Duley Funeral Home and the Schmidt Family Funeral Home all in Centerville. Venetah was a member of First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many, many years. She belonged to the Esther Circle and the Order of Eastern Star as well as being a Charter member of Ensemble Club.She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Charles J. Poffenberger on December 8, 1967; son, James Poffenberger on June 8, 2006 and grandson, Charles 'Chip' Poffenberger on February 25, 1995; also a sister, LeVoy Gragg.Venetah is survived by: her daughter-in-law, Susan Poffenberger of Centerville, Iowa; sisters, Rosemary Brown her husband, Lloyd of Centerville, and brother, Wendell T. Parsons and his wife, Marguerite of Centerville, Iowa; a nieces, Nancy Kilpatrick of Centerville, Iowa, Joyce Crow and her husband, Don of Centerville, Iowa, Karen McDanel and her husband, Dean of Burlington, Iowa and Laura Svejda and her husband, Jeff of Atkins, Iowa; nephews, Steve Brown and his wife, Marchelle of Centerville, Iowa and Jeffrey Brown of Parker, Colorado.Funeral services are set for Monday, April 14, 2008 at 10 AM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Dianne Christopher officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville.
