Velta Louise Sleeth's Obituary
Velta Louise Sleeth, age 102, of Iowa City, Iowa and formally of Centerville, Iowa, died peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2007 at Iowa City Rehabilitation and Care Center in Iowa City. She was born the daughter of Phenice and Sarah (Ransom) Smyser on January 2, 1905 near Glenwood, Missouri and was educated through one year at Lancaster High School.Velta was united in marriage on December 21, 1927 in Centerville, Iowa to Sherman Bhules Sleeth of Downing, Missouri. They later moved to Centerville, Iowa in 1948, where they made their home together and raised a family. Velta enjoyed being a good homemaker and she was a wonderful cook. She also liked sewing, quilting, gardening and caring for animals, but most importantly she loved her home and her family. Velta was a member of the Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri.She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Herbert and Warner Smyser; sisters, Ruby Hart, Goldie Spurgeon and Merle Tade.Velta is survived by: her daughter, Shirley J. Cardani of Iowa City, Iowa; son, Richard Sleeth and his wife, Ilene of Udell, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Diane Pearson of Littleton, Colorado, Karen Dage and her husband, Ron of Amana, Iowa, Cheryl Feldman and her husband, Michael of Williamsburg, Iowa, Chris Cardani and his wife, Sonya of Des Moines, Iowa, Sheila Selix and her husband, Kenny of Unionville, Iowa and Rhonda Harris of Des Moines, Iowa; twelve great grandchildren, Lauren Pearson, Jennifer and Kimberly Feldman, Stacey Newbrough Ascione, Logan and Madison Cardani, Jennifer, Jacqueline and Jonathan Selix, Jillian Selix Kaster, Michelle and Kendra Harris.Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at 11:30 am at the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri with Rev. Steve Altheide officiating. Burial will follow in the Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 from 9 am till 10:30 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with the family present.
