Velma Jean Irwin's Obituary
Velma 'Jean' Irwin, age 80, of Melrose, Iowa, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at her home near Melrose. She was born the daughter of George and Mary Mabel (Murphy) Hammond on August 16, 1929 near Melrose, Iowa. She graduated from the Moravia Community Schools.On March 14, 1948, Jean was united in marriage to Dorman L. Irwin in Albia, Iowa. She worked for a time at Monroe Plastics in Albia and would later work with her husband, farming near Melrose. She attended the North Chariton Community Church in the Brushy area of northern Appanoose County.She was preceded in death by: her parents.Jean is survived by: her husband, Dorman Irwin of Melrose, Iowa; son, Larry and his wife, Cathy Irwin of Ottumwa, Iowa; a daughter, Linda and her husband, Jim Proctor of Melrose, Iowa; two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Hammond of Ottumwa, Iowa, and a sister, Lorraine Rinehart of Moravia, Iowa.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 1 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with John Van Weelden officiating. Burial will follow at the Brushy Cemetery north of Plano, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 29, 2010 from 2 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm.Memorials can be made to the Brushy Cemetery and can be left at the funeral home.
