Valerie Hunt's Obituary
Valerie Kay Hunt, a longtime citizen of Centerville, Iowa, and previous citizen of Mystic, Iowa, has passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the age of 73. She had a long battle with cancer, and congestive heart failure. After a move to West Des Moines to live with her granddaughter, Sarah and her husband Shon, Valerie had been a patient at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines and after an extensive stay, was moved to the Kavanaugh House, for hospice care. She is now at peace and hopefully enjoying her next new venture in life.
Valerie was born April 11, 1936, the daughter of Ulrich and Della (Zimmerman) Fenior in Detroit, Michigan. She was one of six children and was preceded in death by her father when she was 15. She married William Booth Hunt and raised three children, Sharon Murphy (and her husband Bill Murphy) of Washington D.C., Nancy Hunt (Dove) and significant other, Dennis Dove, of Mystic, Iowa, and Steve Hunt (and wife Rebecca) of Kinston, North Carolina. Valerie and her family lived in Detroit for a few years, and then moved to Rockford, Illinois, where she worked at Motorola. They then moved to the town of Cambridge, Illinois and ran a family restaurant with her in-laws, husband and daughters. The Cambridge Cafe (also the Broken Wheel Restaurant) was a very successful business, and there was not a face she was not familiar with. Through good times and bad, she was successful with her life, her faith and raising her children. When she made a friend, you were a friend for life, and part of her existence as a whole. She loved with all she had, and cherished her brothers, sisters, children, and most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After retiring from her years of running our restaurant, her and Bill ran a motorcycle sales and repair shop in Geneseo, Illinois. In the mid seventies, they wanted to enjoy being grandparents, and moved to Mystic, Iowa. And after the deaths of her in-laws, moved to Centerville. She has lived in this area for over 34 years. While living at Shamrock Heights, she met, was courted by, and became soul mates with Frank Grimmie. They had a very special love and life, together for almost fifteen years. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2008. She was preceded in death by her brother, Sonny; niece, Dawn; sister, Joyce; mother, Della; brother, Ron; and previous husband, Bill Hunt. She is survived by her very loved brother, Gary Fenior (and wife Grace) of Knoxville, Tennessee; and sister Cynthia Wagner (and husband Jim) of Detroit, Michigan. She has nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and three great step grandchildren. There are also too may nieces and nephews to name, but know she loved you all.
There will be a visitation from 6-8 PM Thursday evening, July 2, 2009 at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Funeral Home with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Mystic, Iowa. A lunch will be served by the women of the First Baptist Church in Centerville, at the Shamrock Heights. Everyone is welcome to come and share the celebration of her life.
