Twila Jean McMurry's Obituary
Twila McMurry, age 76 of Humeston, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2021 at her home, with her family by her side.
Twila Jean Ryan, along with her twin sister Ila Colleen, was born on April 14, 1944 to Lester and Mayda (Murrow) Ryan. They joined their brother Terry and sisters Judy and Barb and were later joined by their sister Linda.
Twila attended schools in Wayne County and graduated from Corydon High School in 1962. She was married to Shorty Wilson and to this union four children were born: Todd, Chad, Tiffany, and Choel. They later divorced and she then met and married Dennis McMurry. Dennis's son CJ then became a part of their family.
Twila had many skills and she liked working in office environments including American Airlines, Edward Jones, Farm Bureau, Clarke County Development, and Wal-Mart in Osceola. Her greatest enjoyment was cooking for her family and friends. Some of her most wonderful meals were her homemade chicken and noodles, crispy fried chicken, homemade rolls, and brownies, along with any pie, cake, and cookies she made. She was definitely one of the best cooks around and somehow always managed to have enough for leftovers.
She also had many hobbies, and when she decided she enjoyed doing something she would put her whole heart into it. She crocheted afghans, did scrapbooking, she and Dennis always had a wonderful garden and did a lot of canning, she loved doing yardwork; planting flowers and mowing, and before she lost her eyesight, she was getting very good at quilting. She enjoyed fishing with her grandkids and helping Dennis as a ranch hand. After she lost her eyesight, she began listening to books that she received from the Iowa Library for the Blind, she read hundreds of books in the last few years. She also enjoyed spending time sitting around the campfire with Dennis and her kids and grandkids. And one of her most special moments was two-stepping with Dennis to one of their favorite country music songs. Twila loved going to her grandkids' activities when she was able. She was extremely proud of all of them and loved them all unconditionally.
Most importantly, Twila was baptized in Christ and truly loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. Her love for her Lord and Savior carried her through many difficult situations.
She is survived by her husband Dennis, her children: Todd Wilson (Alyssa), Chad Wilson (Fern), Tiffany Carpenter (Clint), Choel Christian (Jamie), CJ McMurry (Misty), and just like a son, Paul Niday (Peggy) grandchildren: Dustin Wilson (Shania), Dakota Wilson (Amber), Caleb and Abby Clark, Cody Wilson, Madison Larson (Luke), Keaton Carpenter (Michol), Trent Carpenter, Alyssa Robinson (Scottie), Alec Robinson (Sarah), Cole Christian (Jessica), Tanner Robinson, Cade Christian, Emma Casavecchia (Joe), Laney Christian (Graden), Bethany McMurry, Sabryna Schmidt (Dan), Ethan Leise, and Carter, Seth and Maryssa McMurry, great grandchildren; Carter, Adelita, Tucker, River, Rory, Dylan, Karter, Jolene, Genesis, Arlo, Axella, Ambrose, Aurelius, Casen and two great grandchildren on the way, sisters: Judy Bates, Barb Mastin and Linda Clark, father-in-law Rex Moore, sisters-in-law; Debbie Fisher (Ken), Marcia Crooks, and Brenda Vinton (Eric), brothers-in-law: Terry McMurry (Barb) and Donnie McMurry, along with several nieces and nephews and other extended family members and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister Ila Brown, brother Terry Martin, brothers-in-law: Doyle Clark, Alan Brown, Ron Mastin, and Ken Crooks, sister-in-law Margaret Martin, and mother-in-law Marilyn Moore.
