Trey Stansberry's Obituary
Jon Trey Stansberry, age 29, of Moulton, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at his home, leaving behind a community that knew him as steady, loyal, and full of quiet joy.
Trey was born on September 21, 1996 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Jon Allen Stansberry and Shelly Robin (Scott) Stansberry. A proud graduate of Moulton High School's Class of 2015, Trey carried the values of hard work and hometown pride with him wherever he went. He continued his education at Indian Hills Community College and learned early what it meant to earn an honest living, working alongside his dad at Stansberry Construction during his younger years. That time helped shape the dependable man so many came to rely on. He later worked at A.Y.M. before finding his place at Farmers Mutual Telephone Company, where he spent the past five years and took pride in the work he did and the people he served.
Trey felt most at home outdoors. He loved mushroom hunting, fishing, and hunting of all kinds-anything that let him breathe in fresh air and enjoy the land he loved. He was also very enthusiastic about being out on the golf course and riding his four-wheeler. When he wasn't outside, he could be found settling in for a good card or poker night with the boys, where laughter and friendly competition were guaranteed.
Above all else, Trey cherished his family. Family time was sacred to him, and he never missed a gathering-because to Trey, showing up mattered. He found pure joy in playing with his nieces and nephews, meeting them at their level, making them laugh, and creating memories the family will carry forever.
Trey's life, though far too short, was rich with meaning: built on hard work, strengthened by friendship, and anchored in love for his family. He will be deeply missed and always remembered for his kind heart, easy smile, and the way he made time for what truly mattered.
Left to honor Trey's memory are his parents, Jon and Shelly Stansberry; his siblings, Tish (Tyler) Stewart, Kaylee Stansberry (Tucker Bratz), and Wyatt Stansberry; his nieces and nephews, Nora Bratz, Vera Bratz, Miles Stewart, and Tate Stewart; his grandparents, Karen Smith and Jerry Stansberry; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Trey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Keith Smith, Florence Stansberry, Dowe and Evelyn Scott; and an uncle, Evan Johnston.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 2, 2026 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville beginning at 3:00PM, with the family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00PM. Funeral Services will take place at 10:00AM, Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Pastor Brian Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset View Cemetery in Moulton.
