Tom Briggs' Obituary
Thomas Ronald Briggs, 77 of Centerville, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at his home.
Tom was born to Ansel & Catherine (Tometich) Briggs on October 4, 1943 in Centerville. Tom served his country in the United States Army from 1962-64 and would also serve four years in the Army Reserves. Following his active-duty service, Tom returned home and was united in marriage to Linda Ballard on June 19, 1965 at First United Methodist Church in Centerville.
Tom worked for Union Carbide/Viskase/Curwood for 35 years, retiring in 2008. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed riding horses, hunting, fishing, time with friends and family. Tom was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed following Dale Earnhardt. He clung to his mortal coil long enough to see his beloved Chicago Cubs clinch a world series title, surprisingly not immediately passing from a heart attack after the events of game seven.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Briggs, children: Chad Briggs (significant other, Abigail, and children Benny and Henry), Alisha Jenecke (Dan), grandchildren: Brayan Robb, Andrew, Brett and Cassidy Jenecke, siblings: Jim Briggs (Gloria), Jack Briggs (Phyllis), Judy Briggs and numerous extended family. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Deloris Cafer.
Due to the spike in the Delta variant, funeral service will be held at Thomas Funeral Home with family only present. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Thomas Funeral Home from 4-6 pm without the presence of Tom's family. Tom will be buried in Dale Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family which will be later divided between numerous charities, and condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome.
