Thomas "Tom" Allen's Obituary
Thomas 'Tom' Allen, age 68, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born the son of Elva and Virgie (Freeborn) Allen on December 28, 1944 in Centerville, Iowa. He attended the Putnam County High School in Unionville, Missouri.On December 20, 1981, Tom was united in marriage to Loretta Cornett in Seymour, Iowa. He was a mechanic and worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for over 16 years. He loved his Ford Thunderbirds, and restored many of them himself. For the last 13 years, he and Loretta would spend their winters in Texas with many friends.He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Charles Allen and a brother in infancy; sisters, Beulah Boland and Barbara Peckham.Tom is survived by: his wife, Loretta Allen of Centerville, Iowa; sons, Chad Allen and his wife, Brandy of Lancaster, Missouri and Chuck Allen and his wife, Michelle of Sturgeon, Missouri; a daughter, Christie Cullum and her husband, Dean of Fort Stewart at Hinesville, Georgia; step-son, Mike Houser of Centerville, Iowa; step-daughter, Rachelle Sporleder and her husband, Michael of Red Oak, Iowa; sisters, Bonnie Morrow of Martinsdale, Iowa and Betty Tompkins of Houston, Texas and Mary Oden of Chariton, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev Joan Ervin and Dick Allen officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 4, 2013 from 1 pm until 8 pm and the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made in to the American Heart Association and left or mailed to the funeral home.
