Thelma McVey's Obituary
Thelma, daughter of Clifford Gene Nichols & Lavora Darlene Nigh Nichols was born on October 26, 1959 in the Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, Missouri. She was promoted from this life to 'a new life in heaven' on November 2, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. On June 19, 1977, Thelma married Nick McVey in the Cambria Baptist Church. They lived in Corydon, Iowa in a little house on 317 W. North St. Thelma worked as a nurses aid at the Wayne Community Hospital for a few years until state cutbacks cost her that job. She then started up a daycare business in her home to supplement the family income. She loved children and babysitting just seemed to work well for her. Thelma and Nick went through NOVA Foster Parent training to be a legal foster home. Shortly thereafter, Michael came to be with them and soon after that Emily showed up. Michael Joseph was adopted to this union on April. 16, 1993 and Emily Samantha was adopted to this union on April 14, 1995. Thelma accepted Christ as her savior when she was a teenager but never really started to grow in the Lord till she was in her married life. Raising her kids required a lot of strength and she called upon the Lord much for the strength that only He can provide. She loved her family more than words can speak. She loved to read, and go camping and walking with Nick. She cared for everyone and tried to share her faith with as many as would listen. The last few years she worked as a maid at Nodyroc motel in Corydon. She loved that job too. It put her in contact with people from all over. Opportunities for more souls to hear about Christ. She loved to talk to people about 'my Jesus' she would say, He's the only way. She drilled it into her family to follow God in everything. Thelma was preceded in death by her father Clifford Gene Nichols and a brother Danny Gene Nichols. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Nick of Corydon, son Michael McVey of Des Moines, daughter Emily McVey of Corydon, mother Lavora Rose and her husband Lloyd 'Doc' Rose of Modena, Mo., sisters Linda Brown and her husband Dennis of Lincoln, Mt., and Sherry Wells and her husband Dennis of Pleasant Hope, Mo., brother Randy Nichols and wife Oletha of Clio, Ia., mother-in-law MaDonna McVey of Centerville, Ia., sister-in-law Julie Woodley of Centerville, Ia. along with a host of nieces and nephews.
