Theda K. Long's Obituary
Theda Katherine Kinser Long of Albia, Iowa, departed this life on August 30, 2008, at the age of 91 years and 1 month.
She was born July 30, 1917, near Promise City, Iowa, to David C and Mary (Sales) Kinser. Theda graduated from Promise City High School, attended Parsons College and began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse near Confidence, Iowa. On December 10, 1938, she married a former school mate, Gerold E. Long. As a married women she could not continue teaching, however in 1943, due to a lack of teachers, she returned to teaching at Promise City until 1954.
Theda's writing career began with a correspondent position and evolved into a 14 year stint as an award-winning journalist with the Centerville Iowegian. She and her husband moved to Lakeshore Heights on Lake Rathbun in 1976 and lived there until his death in 1994.
Theda is survived by two daughters, Judy (Rod) Russell of Estes Park, Colorado and Barbara Long of Centerville, Iowa; a son, Michael R. Long of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A private burial was held Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at the Promise City Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Morrison officiating. In lieu of flowers the memorial has been established to the family and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
