Terry Robert Brumley Obituary's Obituary
Terry Robert Brumley --- Husband, Father, Grandfather, Engineer, Musician, and Pilot --- died at 69 years old on September 28, 2014 at his home near Centerville, Iowa. Terry was born February 4, 1945 in Iowa City, Iowa to Mary Ellen (Connell) and Lawrence Robert Brumley. Terry was older brother to James Lawrence Brumley. Terry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Karen Rose DeBolt of Corydon, on March 17, 1968 in Corydon, Iowa. Terry and Karen had four children that were Terry's pride and joy: twins Kirsten Rose (married to Adrian Saunders), Robert Willard (married to Guang Yang), David James (married to Alice Ohgi), and Kathleen Mary (married to Brijesh D'Silva). Terry was grandfather to six grandchildren: Emily Karen Brumley, Kathryn Rose Saunders, Maximilian Lawrence and Apollo James Brumley, and twins Kareena Elizabeth and Bijeet Terrence D'Silva. Terry had three passions in his life - his family was always first, then playing the guitar, and airplanes. Terry's family was his pride and joy, and he delighted in them, bragging about them and his daughters- and sons-in-law to anyone. In later years, he liked watching their growth and development and spent as much time visiting his children and grandchildren in Seattle, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and San Francisco as he spent at home. He began piano and guitar lessons very young and quickly became an expert jazz guitarist. In college, he gave lessons and played in several bands. He passed his love for music to all his children and grandchildren. Terry's father was a pilot and he and his brother Jim also became pilots. One of Terry's life goals was to build an airplane, which he partially completed before his illness. Even while he was quite ill, he and his brother went flying which always gave him a big smile. Terry worked in the aerospace industry throughout his career, working on many space programs, having earned a B.S. in Engineering from Iowa State University. When he was 54, he had an opportunity to further his education and earned an M.S. in Computer Science from Colorado State University, setting an example to his children and grandchildren that learning is always to be embraced. His expertise and love was in turning design plans into space-certified products and he even had several production tools named after him. He was a gentle soft-spoken man who always did his best, and believed the best of everyone. He was a principled and peace-loving man, and raised a family who will treasure his memory. He is survived by his wife Karen, children, grandchildren, brother, and friends.
