Tammy Lynn Poole's Obituary
Tammy Lynn (Cowan) Poole, age 60, of Seymour, Iowa passed away on February 7, 2026 at Mary Greeley Hospital surrounded by her loving husband and family.
Tammy was born on October 7, 1965 in Unionville, Missouri to Dennis and Patricia (Anders) Cowan. She attended school and graduated from Centerville High School with the class of 1984. On March 9, 1985 she married the love of her life, Kevin Poole, and to this union three children were born: Lacey, Mashala, and Jace.
Throughout her life, Tammy could be described as very steady, selfless, and compassionate. You always knew you could rely on her, she cared for everyone surrounding her. Time with family and friends were most cherished together. Tammy loved to travel with Kevin, whether it be the Iowa State Fair or to Branson and beyond, she liked to take time and see the countryside.
Tammy was a Sunday School teacher at the church, and found great joy in teaching children about the Lord. She was a paraeducator for 22 years, and also spent many hours volunteering her time as a local EMT on surrounding ambulance crews. Tammy was a deeply nurturing soul, known to many simply as "Mom," not only to her own children but to countless others who felt her care. Her arms and her heart were always wide open, ready to welcome, comfort, and help anyone in need.
When she wasn't busy, she could be found enjoying The Little House on the Prairie reruns. Tammy was loved significantly by her family and friends and community that surrounds her. She trusted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and lived her life anchored in that faith. It was her deepest hope that everyone around her would come to trust in Him as well, and she often spoke with joyful anticipation of the day she would meet Jesus face to face. No matter how difficult the circumstance, two phrases were always on her lips: "God's got this!" and "Faith over fear."
Even in recent days, she continued sharing her faith-traveling to Iowa City for appointments and taking time to pass out books about God's promises and the goodness of His love. She made it her mission to remind others of His faithfulness, always striving to make those around her feel seen, valued, and deeply special.
Tammy is survived by her husband, Kevin; children, Lacey (Brandon) Devore, Mashala (Jesse) Johnson, and Jace Poole; grandchildren, Addison Devore, Hunter Devore, and Haylee Johnson; father, Dennis Cowan; siblings, Brian (Haley) Cowan and Karen (Craig) Bowman, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Cowan; her in-laws, Ed and Geri Poole; her sister-in-law, Carol Schultz; and her nephew, Donnie Schultz.
