Steve Anthony Raskie's Obituary
Steve Raskie, age 83 of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville.
Steve was born on November 29, 1938 in Cincinnati, Iowa, the son of Steve Vincent Raskie and Eva (Cinkovich) Raskie. He graduated from Cincinnati High School with the Class of 1957. He was united in marriage to Doris Kirkland on June 7, 1958. To this union, five children were born, Rick, Michael, Steve, Cynthia, and Stacey.
After high school, Steve began working for Mott Construction. He also assisted with constructing the Rathbun Dam. He later accepted a position at Young Radiator and worked there for several years before retiring. Steve was a long-time member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville and worked as a custodian at St. Marys Catholic Church and St. Marys School for many years. He was active in the Knights of Columbus.
Steve loved taking his wife Doris dancing to Polka music on Saturday nights. He was passionate about wood working and loved to build bird houses. He also enjoyed hunting, trapping, gardening, playing cards, reading, watching westerns, playing the harmonica, mushroom hunting and hunting nuts-a family tradition.
Left to honor Steves memory are his children, Rick (Rhonda) Raskie of Exline, Michael (Shona) Raskie of Exline, Steve Raskie of Centerville, Cynthia Myers of Centerville, and Stacey (Tray) Wade of West Des Moines; eleven grandchildren, Robert (Heather) Raskie, Rendy Raskie, Randall (Shannon) Raskie, Natasha Myers, Jacob Myers, Ashley Hart, Lacey Myers, Ciesel Myers, Katie Myers, Hallye Wade, and Norah Wade; nine great grandchildren, Gracie McVeigh, Taylor McVeigh, Torri McVeigh, Harper Hart, Nellie Hart, Raleigh Raskie, Andersen Raskie, Landon Vangalder, and Raylin Raskie; siblings, Gabe Raskie of Centerville, Helen Hawk of Centerville, Cecelia Budiselich of Centerville, Teenie Kolniak of Burr Ridge, Illinois, and Pat (Jim) Jolly of Roscoe, Illinois; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Eva Raskie; six siblings, George Raskie, Mike Raskie, Mary Adams, Eva Ruark, Frances Sniegowski and Carl Raskie; as well as several extended family members.
Per Steves wishes, cremation has been accorded. A visitation celebrating Steves life will be held Monday, January 3, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 5-7PM, with a prayer service will be conducted at 5:00PM. A Joint Celebration of Christian Burial for Steve and Doris will be held at 10AM, Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville with Fr. Timothy Armbruster officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Numa Cemetery.
