Steve Keener's Obituary
Steve Keener, 46 of Centerville went to Heaven Saturday, April 2, 2005. He was born on November 12, 1958. He was the only son of Beverly Gartin Keener and John David Keener. He died at the family home with his mother and sister Becky by his side. When he was younger he was known as ""Hound Dog"" on the CB radio. He spent most of his life in Centerville. Steve married Malinda Robnett of Albia. They later divorced. They had two children, a daughter Candi Sue Jones of Melrose, Iowa and a son Chad Keener of Knoxville, Iowa. He was proceeded in death by his father John and his grandfather John L. Gartin of Chariton. Steve had two sisters Laura Pickler and Becky Clark. There are three nephews and nieces. Steve loved life and wanted to live more than 46 years God allowed him. He had fought a hard fight from throat cancer for almost a year. He was non-responsive at 8:00 a.m. on the morning of April 2nd when his mother woke up. The angels came to take him to his heavenly home at about 2:00 p.m. He never complained about the cancer although we knew it wasn't the way he wanted to be. He was a very positive thinking guy. He focused on living. All those he had contact with during this time would receive a gospel tract and asked if they knew 100% for sure they were going to Heaven. He was always thinking of others. When someone got saved from his efforts he had a big smile and thumbs up. He became very interested in soul winning. He enjoyed revival, special and regular services. He loved the Lord and the things of the Lord and served him until his death. There is someone in this audience that used to baby sit Steve. He loved to walk around their coffee table and chew on their candy dish lid. There is also someone who cut his hair. Steve came in contact with lots of doctors, nurses and hospital staffs that cared for him. They had kind words to say about him. Dr. Deming the oncologist phoned on April 3rd to see how he was doing. He told Steve's mother they all loved him and thought he was a wonderful guy. He will be missed by many family members and friends. Steve was employed by Pella Windows. He was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan. In 2003 he and two of his friends went to see the cubs. In 2004 he took his mother to see a game. Funeral Services will be held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Peoples Baptist Church in Centerville with Pastor Michael Willis officiating. Friends may call Tuesday at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home with the family present from 7-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Peoples Baptist Church or to the family and may be left or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, PO Box 6, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
