I had the honor of working with doc for many years beginning in the old St. Joe's hospital and until his retirement. The closest working relationship was in the ER and Surgery where Dr. Jewett was at his finest. He had a very keen sense of humor that many people never had the opportunity to experience but it came out especially when he and Dr. Parks were in the operating room together. As a 'greenhorn' it took me awhile to learn his way of practicing which he did in a quiet, methodical way. The most important duty for me as a nurse in the ER was to bring him a cup of coffee whenever he came in to see a patient! Once I got that figured out we got along fine ! Dr. Jewett endured many changes in the healthcare system over his career but he always hung on to the basics of compassion and dignity for his patients. We will all cling to the great memories created by this dedicated physician, loving father and caring human being. Posted by Barbara Hull - centerville, IA - nurse June 29, 2012
