Stanley Wayne Zugg's Obituary
Stanley Wayne Zugg, 60 of Mystic, Iowa, was called to meet his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Mercy One Hospital in Centerville, Iowa, after a prolonged fight with COVID-19.
Stan was born to Jack and Erma Jean (Jacobs) Zugg on July 24, 1961 in Ottumwa, Iowa, in a head-to-head race to enter the world with his twin brother, Steven. He graduated from Moulton-Udell High School in 1980. On March 28, 1981, he married his best friend and love of his life, Deborah Brockus, at Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church in Centerville, IA, and together they enjoyed 40 years. To this union they welcomed their four girls - Virginia, Stephanie, Michelle and Jessica.
Stan worked at Viskase as a printing press operator for 20 years. In 2000, he joined the family business, Z-Meats and Farmers Processing, where he was a butcher and meat cutter.
In his younger years he enjoyed camping, motorcycle road trips and water skiing. He also enjoyed attending his daughters' high school and collegiate sporting events. Stan lived to go to church every Sunday morning, then head to his parents for a family dinner. He was an Awana leader at Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church, and a Sunday School teacher and deacon at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his brother - working on cars, tinkering with antique tractors, and working on the family farm near Moulton, IA. During the later years of his life, he ran the family business, faithfully cared for his wife after her stroke and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Stan is survived by his wife, Deborah Zugg; four daughters, Virginia (Matthew) Deutmeyer of Cedar Rapids, IA, Stephanie (Michael) Gale of Minnetonka, MN, Michelle Zugg of Tuscon, AZ, and Jessica (Ryan) May of Albia, IA; seven grandchildren, Jack, Samuel and Lillian Deutmeyer, Isaac, Elijah and Gia Gale and Benjamin May; parents, Jack and Erma Jean Zugg; sister, Jacquelynn Zugg, twin brother Steven Zugg and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Robert and Erma Jacobs; and Ethridge and Lois Speer.
Visitation for Stan will be held at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville on Sunday, October 24, 2021, from 12-7pm, with family present from 5-7pm. Funeral service will be held at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 10:00am, with graveside services to follow at Sunset View Cemetery in Moulton.
