Shirley Jean Hill's Obituary
Shirley Jean Hill, age 86, of Moravia, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Mahaska Health Center in Oskaloosa.
Shirley was born on September 2, 1936 in Birmingham, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Marguerite (Brill) Parsons. She graduated from Birmingham High School. On December 26, 1954, Shirley was united in marriage to Jerry Mikel Hill. To this union, two children were born, Vickie and Lori.
Shirley was a homemaker throughout her life. She took pride in raising her children, was a fabulous cook and superb at tailoring. She also worked in retail for several years part time. Furthermore, she was employed as the Ward Secretary at the hospital in Bloomfield for many years. Shirley was also a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where she was a past member of the W.S.C.S. She was a former member of the Bridge Club, and thoroughly enjoyed her Red Hat Ladies family.
Left to cherish Shirley's memory are her children, Vickie (Tim) Reynolds of Anamosa, Iowa and Lori (Randy) Scott of Albia, Iowa; four grandchildren, Aaron Reynolds, Amanda (Damian) Thorstenson, Jared Scott, and Branden (Katie) Scott; five great grandchildren, Skylar Scott, Colton Engel, Sean Reynolds, Tessa Scott, and Tanner Scott; as well as several extended family and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Marguerite Parsons; her husband Jerry Mikel Hill on December 24, 2018; and her brother, Frank Parsons.
Per Shirley's wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10AM, Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia with Pastor Shawn LaRue officiating.
