Sherry D. Miller's Obituary
Sherry Dianne Miller, age 66, of Moravia, Iowa passed away November 25, 2009 after a year and a half of fighting a courageous battle against breast cancer. Sherry was the daughter of Laura (Davis) and the late Charles Trafton. She was born on September 15, 1943 in St. Paul, MN. Her family later moved to Newton, IA where she graduated from Newton High school in 1961. She attended college at Northeast Missouri State, now known as Truman State University, in Kirksville, MO where she met her husband, James F. Miller of 44 years. They moved to Moravia, Iowa after Jim was offered a teaching position. She finished her teaching degree at William Penn in Oskaloosa, IA. Upon graduation she was also offered a teaching position at the Moravia Elementary where she taught for over thirty years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Moravia Garden Club; Rathbun Area Reading Association and was a Monroe County 4-H leader. Some of her favorite pastimes included crocheting and knitting afghan blankets, cross-stitching projects and raising Suffolk sheep. She dearly loved kids. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her flower gardens and life in general. She will be deeply missed. Sherry is survived by her husband, James of Moravia, IA; daughter, Kriston (Kevin) Jurasek of Johnston, IA; sons, Jamie (Jody) Miller of Zionsville, IN; and Shawn Miller of Peoria, IL; her four grandchildren, Konner and Katelyn Jurasek of Johnston, IA; Isabelle and Alexandria Miller of Zionsville, IN; her mother, Laura Trafton of Newton, IA; sister, Linda (Jim) Roye of Searsboro, IA; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Charles Trafton and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday morning, November 30, 2009 at the Grace United Methodist Church, Moravia with Pastor Gene Kubli officiating. Friends may call from noon until 8 PM Sunday at the Lange Funeral Home, Moravia with the family present from 5-7 PM. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia. A memorial has been established to the Sherry Miller Memorial Fund and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, PO Box 392, Moravia, Iowa 52571.
