Sgt. Phillip J. Kirby's Obituary
Sgt. Phillip J. Kirby, age 43, of Centerville, Iowa, who was known by his close family and friends as 'PeeWee', died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at his home in Centerville. He was born the son of John Lee and Beverly Ann (Long) Kirby on November 28, 1964 in Vancouver, Washington. He graduated from the Wayne Community School in Corydon in 1983, and later would graduate from Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa in 1985.On August 29, 1985, Phillip was united in marriage to Kathryn Ann Mullin in Creston, Iowa. Phillip worked in maintenance and supply, and most recently, was recruit trainer for the Iowa National Guard in Des Moines, Iowa. He has served his country over 29 years. Most recently, he served during Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.He is preceded in death by: his father, John Lee Kirby on August 8, 2001; daughters, Kasey Karole Kirby and Kerri Ann Kirby in March 1990; maternal grandparents, Ivan and Carmen Long and paternal grandparents, Grace and Jacob Kirby.Phillip is survived by: his wife, Kathryn Kirby of Centerville, Iowa; his children, Nickolas Roy Kirby and KateLynn Michelle Kirby both of Centerville; his mother, Beverly Kirby of Centerville; brother, Jimmy Kirby of Merrillville, Indiana; sisters, Dee Kastner of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Nancy Hansen of Los Angeles, California, Jonnie Klein of Greenville, Texas, Becky Kirby of Bonham, Texas and Melanie McFatridge of Whitewright, Texas; also several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and host of friends.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 10 am at the Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville, Iowa with Revs. Sharon Squires and Gene Kubli officiating. Burial with full military honors will be on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 10 am in the Fort Sill Post Cemetery in Lawton, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2008 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to Faith United Methodist Church or Mercy Hospice and can be left at the funeral home.
