Samuel ""Sam"" Proffitt, age 62 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Centerville Nursing and Rehab Center in Centerville.
Sam was born on February 2, 1952 to Elmer and Lola (Abel) Proffitt in Centerville, Iowa.
Known by so many people for his ""happy go lucky"" personality, Sam loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing board games with family members. As his great-nieces and nephews became older, Sam enjoyed playing both basketball and baseball with them. He never missed an opportunity to go shopping with his niece Jill, as long as she was willing to pay. Family members have stated that one of Sam's favorite past times was cruising the Centerville Square with his great- nephew Tyler. He was also very passionate about music and had an enormous collection of music albums.
Sam is survived by four brothers, David (Cathy) Proffitt of Centerville, Ron (Natalie) Proffitt of Bettendorf, Iowa, Mike (Tammy) Proffitt of Des Moines and Danny (Tammy) Proffitt of Unionville, Iowa; two sisters, Sue Oden of Unionville, Missouri and Dona Richman of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great, great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Clifford Proffitt, Shirley Vestal, Geraldine Cloud, Laura Ashby and Judy Proffitt.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville from 10 AM-2 PM, with the family greeting friends from 1-2 PM. Graveside services will follow at 2:10 PM in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery just west of Cincinnati, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
