Ruth E Spencer's Obituary
Ruth E. Spencer, 91, of Centerville, passed away December 2, 2014 at Golden Age Care Center. Ruth was born on April 17, 1923 to Ralph and Florence (Landgraf) Eickelberg in Waterloo, Iowa. She grew up with one brother and two sisters. She received her education from Waterloo East High School and went on to receive her nursing degree from St. Luke's in Cedar Rapids. Ruth used her skills as a nurse during World War II, serving in the Nurse Corp. Following the war, she spent years as a registered nurse and instructor. She was married to Dr. Carl Spencer in the mid 1940s. She lived most of her life on the West Coast, from Arizona to Washington. Ruth loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and hiking. She was a formidable opponent to anyone who challenged her to a game of cribbage or gin rummy. Ruth is survived by ten nieces and nephews; Terry (Sheryl) J Eickelberg, Phoebe (Mike) O'Connor, Susan (Art) Johnson, Nancy Baumgartner, Julie (Fred) Reed, Peggy (Randy) Hausler, Ted (Jenelle) Eickelberg, Sarah (Bob) Jameson, Sarah (Kyle) Drake and Linda (Balster) Davis and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, husband, Carl, two sisters; Phoebe Jane Eickelberg Kyle and Dorothy Eickelberg Balster and brother, R. John Eickelberg.
